Certified nursing assistant programs take around 12 weeks to finish 75 hours of instruction. Some states call this position nursing aide and some call it certified nursing assistant but they both have the same basic requirements.[ref]

Prerequisites

“To become a CNA, the completion of a post-secondary certificate program is required. About 75 hours of additional training is also needed, beyond the instructional time commitment that is necessary to be a nurses aid. Candidates must also pass their state’s competency exam and often receive extra on-the-job training after being hired. Nursing assistants who have passed the exam are placed on the state’s registry.

After completing the appropriate and required CNA training, you may choose to pursue further credentials that allow you to specialize in your work. Available specializations include opportunities to become activity assistants, medication aides, wound care associates, and patient care technicians.[ref]
