About

Florida Technical College was established in 1982 to offer post-secondary education in specialized business fields. The main campus in Orlando opened that same year, followed by the Lakeland campus in 1990 and the DeLand campus in 1997. Additional campuses were launched in Kissimmee, Pembroke Pines, and Tampa in 2011, with the South Miami campus opening in 2015.

After four decades of serving Florida’s educational needs, Florida Technical College has officially merged with NUC University, its former sister institution. NUC University has also expanded its reach by incorporating three additional institutions: the Digital Animation & Visual Effects (DAVE) School, Hillsboro Aero Academy (HAA) in Florida, and the IBC Technical Division in Puerto Rico. Collectively, these institutions now operate 15 campuses and serve over 25,000 students across Florida and Puerto Rico.

Electrical - Diploma

In the Electrical Diploma Program, students will develop technical skills and practical knowledge within the electrical trade. They will perform installation tasks, services, and repairs. Graduates from this program will apply their acquired skills in the fulfillment of positions as electrical assistants. Students are eligible for certifications in: OSHA 10 Safety Training Course, NCCER Core Curriculum, NCCER Electrical Level 1, 2, and 3.

A total of 720 contact hours is required and divided into 200 lecture hour and 520 lab hours. The program consists of 46 quarter credits. Employment opportunities include Electrician’s Helper/apprentice (residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems), and Maintenance and Repair Workers.

Welding - Diploma

In the Welding Diploma Program, students will develop technical skills and practical experiences related to cutting metal. In addition, they will interpret manufacturing and construction drawings and measurements used in the field. Students will also apply gained knowledge of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) processes, as well as pipe welding techniques related to these four welding processes. Students are eligible for certification of completion and membership for: OSHA 10 Safety Training Course, National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) Core Curriculum, (NCCER) Welding Level 1, 2, and 3, and American Welding Society (AWS) Membership.

A total of 960 contact hours is required and divided into 260 lecture hours and 700 lab hours. The program consists of 61 quarter credits. Employment opportunities include Aluminum Welder, Maintenance Welder, and Mig Welder.

HVAC/R with PLC - Diploma

The HVAC/R with PLC Diploma Program offers students the technical and practical knowledge and skills to perform heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration maintenance, assist with installations, and repairs.

Students will also learn basic skills related to programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Graduates from this program will be able to fill positions at construction firms, as well as residential and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning companies.

Students are eligible to take the following certification tests: EPA 608 Universal and OSHA 10 Safety. A total of 920 contact hours is required and divided into 500 lecture hours and 420 lab hours. Employment opportunities include HVAC Mechanic, A/C Tech, Installer Assistant, HVAC Service Technician, Systems Maintenance Mechanic.

Electrical with PLC - Diploma

The Electrical with PLC Diploma Program prepares the student with technical skills and practical knowledge to perform installation tasks, services, and repairs in the electrical trade specializing in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). Graduates from this program will be able to fill positions as an electrician helper for services and construction firms in residential, commercial and industrial businesses associated with the electrical trade industry. Students are eligible for certifications in: OSHA 10 Safety Training Course, NCCER Core Curriculum, NCCER Electrical Level 1, 2, and 3.

A total of 900 contact hours is required and divided into 300 lecture hours and 600 lab hours. The program consists of 64 quarter credits. Employment opportunities include electricians' helper/electricians' assistant (residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems), maintenance and repair workers, and electrical service technicians.

HVAC/R - Diploma

The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) Diploma Program prepares students with the knowledge and necessary skills to develop efficient and safety-minded technicians that may be able to fill an entry level position in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning field. In addition, they will acquire the necessary skills, to perform installation tasks, service and repairs in heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment. This program is designed to prepare graduates to take the certifications from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Students are eligible to take the following certification tests: EPA 608 Universal and OSHA 10 Safety. A total of 960 contact hours is required and divided into 520 lecture hours and 440 lab hours. The program consists of 74 quarter credits. Employment opportunities include HVAC Repair Specialist, HVAC Assistant Installer, and HVAC Technician Apprentice.

En el Programa de Diploma en Electricidad, el estudiante desarrollará destrezas técnicas y conocimiento práctico en el campo de la electricidad. Realizará tareas de instalación, servicios y reparaciones. El egresado de este programa aplicará sus destrezas adquiridas en el cumplimiento de su puesto como ayudante de electricista en residencias, empresas comerciales e industriales asociadas al campo de la electricidad. Los estudiantes son elegibles para la certificación de finalización: OSHA 10 Training Course NCCER Core Curriculum NCCER Electricidad Nivel 1,2,3.

Electrical with PLC - Diploma (Spanish)

Este Programa de Diploma en Electricidad con PLC capacita al estudiante en las destrezas técnicas y el conocimiento práctico necesarios para realizar tareas de instalación, servicios y reparaciones en el campo de la electricidad con especialidad en controladores lógicos programables (PLC, por sus siglas en inglés). El egresado de este programa será capaz de ocupar puestos como ayudante de electricista en compañías de servicio y construcción para residencias, empresas comerciales e industriales asociadas a la industria de la electricidad.
