“How to Become a Home Health Aide

  • Get your high school diploma or GED.
  • Your educational requirements will depend on your employer. Medicaid and Medicare funded organizations will have you complete formal training. Many private companies will give you training right on the job.
  • If your employer wants you to have a certificate, many community colleges and trade schools offer these programs. They last about one semester.
  • Consider getting your certification from the National Association for Home Care and Hospice (NAHC). Seventy-five hours of training and passing a written exam are the requirements.”

“Unlike other careers that require a 40-hour week, hours can vary depending on the patient and/or employer. Some patients only require a couple of hours of care and others require care around-the-clock. The needs of your patient will set the tone for your work week.”
